Forever Strange is the songwriting project of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania musician David Kaminski, built on the belief that the ordinary moments in life often reveal the deepest truths. Influenced by artists who valued honest songwriting over trends, David writes about gratitude, family, fear, balance, faith, relationships, and the strange ways we all try to make sense of the world.
Forever Strange began in 2005 as a full band. The debut self-titled album was recorded the way so many independent records were in that era—not in an expensive studio, but in drummer Bill Brown's basement using Mike Hess's Fostex multitrack recorder. Mixed in N-Track software and professionally mastered by Marshall Deasy, the record wasn't polished for radio. It was simply an honest collection of songs written by friends who loved making music.
Over the next decade, Forever Strange evolved through several lineups, with talented musicians including Dave Gary, Robert Zeigler, Steve Matthes, Mike Haverstick, and Derek Ferrar. Between 2005 and 2015, the band became a familiar face in the Harrisburg music scene, playing local venues while building friendships that lasted long after the gigs ended.
In 2023, David returned Forever Strange to its original purpose—not as a bar band, but as a home for original songs. Since then, he has steadily released new music exploring what he jokingly calls "songs of gratitude, attitude, and confusion." The catalog continues to grow, each song beginning with a simple observation about life and following it wherever it leads.
Musically, Forever Strange blends acoustic rock, singer-songwriter, Americana, and alternative rock, occasionally borrowing subtle strings or other textures when they help tell the story. The songs are melodic and approachable, but they're rarely interested in easy answers. They're invitations to pause, laugh, reflect, or see familiar experiences from a different perspective.
Many of the songs are rooted in David's own life—raising a family, navigating career changes, rediscovering gratitude, questioning assumptions, and learning that some of life's greatest blessings arrive disguised as disappointments. Others are inspired by conversations, current events, forgotten memories, or the quiet observations that most of us experience but rarely put into words.
Whether it's finding contentment in Money When I Was Young, wrestling with imagined fears in Fear of Nothing, searching for balance in Yin Yang, or simply saying Thank You, every song begins with the same goal: to leave the listener feeling like they just had an honest conversation with an old friend.
When he isn't writing or recording in his attic studio, David performs throughout Central Pennsylvania as Dave Kaminski Acoustic Rock, where years of playing live continue to shape the storytelling at the heart of Forever Strange.
